Dear Chapter Members, Alumni, and Friends,
Optica Bangladesh Student Chapter at University of Dhaka is pleased to announce that ever since its re-emergence in 2021, it has been successful in organizing events and collaborating with its members in order to further knowledge and information about optics and photonics. Optica DU has successfully hosted an event on “Optics and Photonics Research in Bangladesh: Do’s and Don’ts” on August 6, 2021, Friday. A technical webinar on “Disordered Photonics and the Quest for Order in Disorder” is to be held on November 11, 2021, Thursday.
In addition to the events, the student chapter has also been rebranded to Optica Bangladesh Student Chapter at University of Dhaka from OSA Bangladesh Student Chapter at University of Dhaka and launched its dedicated website to spread its activities. This has been done as a result of The Optical Society (OSA) rebranding itself as Optica in order to reflect the changes and growth experienced by the world since its foundation in 1916.
Optics and Photonics Research in Bangladesh: Do’s and Don’ts
A webinar on “Optics and Photonics Research in Bangladesh: Do’s and Don’ts” was organized by Optica Bangladesh Student Chapter at University of Dhaka on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 7.30 PM Bangladesh Standard Time. The honorable speakers in this event were the founding chair and the current president of The Optical Society Bangladesh Section, Dr. Sajid M Choudhury, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BUET, and Dr. Mahdy Rahman Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, North South University. The event was hosted by the current advisor of OSA DU, Dr. Mainul Hossain, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Dhaka.
In the event, the speakers shared their experiences in the field of Optics and Photonics research, and offered their valuable advice on conducting quality research in this field in Bangladesh, given the lack of infrastructure and resources.
Disordered Photonics and the Quest for Order in Disorder
A webinar on “Disordered Photonics and the Quest for Order in Disorder” is to be organized by Optica Bangladesh Student Chapter at University of Dhaka on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 6.30 PM Bangladesh Standard Time. The speaker at the event will be Dr. Md. Zunaid Baten, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, BUET.
Dr. Baten will be speaking about a curious field of photonics research known as disordered photonics – an area that focuses on the complex behavior of light in random or disordered media. The speaker would be sharing his own motivation for pursuing this field of photonics, as well as discuss, in simple terms, the findings of his research group in their attempt in predicting and controlling the behavior of light in complex random media.
We hope that you will try to attend the webinar and help make the event a great success!
