Disordered Photonics and the Quest for Order in Disorder

Description :
Disordered photonics is an exciting area of photonic research which explores the complex behavior of light in random or disordered media. Research in this area over the recent years has encouraged theoretical propositions, as well as experimental demonstrations of diversified applications related to lasing, energy harvesting, imaging and sensing. In this talk on disordered photonics, the speaker would like to share how his experience of working with self-organized nanowires inspired him to get into this fascinating field of research. Instead of going into too much technical details, the speaker aims to discuss in simple terms the disordered photonics related findings of his research group – in particular how they have been trying to predict, if not control, the behavior of light in complex random media.
